Our Core Values

These principles guide everything we do as a church community

Biblical Teaching

We are committed to teaching God's Word faithfully and helping people apply it to their lives. We believe the Bible is God's inspired, inerrant Word and our ultimate authority.

Authentic Community

We believe spiritual growth happens best in community. We foster genuine relationships where people can be known, loved, and challenged to grow in their faith.

Missional Living

We believe every follower of Jesus is called to share His love with others. We equip and encourage our members to live on mission in their neighborhoods, workplaces, and beyond.

Spiritual Growth

We are committed to helping people grow in their relationship with Christ, becoming more like Him in their thoughts, words, and actions through discipleship and spiritual practices.

Spirit-Led Worship

We value authentic, heartfelt worship that glorifies God and transforms lives. We seek to create environments where people can encounter God's presence.

Servant Leadership

We believe leadership is about service, not status. We develop and empower leaders who model Christ-like humility and sacrifice as they guide others.

Our History

The story of how our church has grown and evolved over the years

Beginnings in Bangalore

Ken and Mary Waldock arrived in India and, due to changes in ministry opportunities, relocated to Bangalore along with Ken’s parents. They began informal worship and outreach efforts in Koramangala.

Church Constitution

Bethel Baptist Church was officially constituted on November 28, 1982, with 14 committed members. The church began to grow steadily in both attendance and outreach ministries.

First Dedicated Building

The church leased its first dedicated building on 100' Road, allowing for expanded ministries, Sunday School rooms, and office space. The congregation continued to flourish.

New Church Building

After years of prayer and saving, Bethel moved into its permanent church building in Egipura. The building was dedicated in August 2002 with great joy and thanksgiving.

Leadership Transition

Following challenges including visa issues and personal tragedy, Pastor Ken resigned. Leadership transitioned to national pastors, marking a significant shift in church maturity.

New Pastor Installed

Nelson D’Cunha was installed as the third pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, continuing the church’s mission under Indian leadership with a renewed vision and vitality.

25th Anniversary

Bethel celebrated 25 years as an autonomous, self-supporting, and thriving church, grateful for God's faithfulness and looking forward to the future with purpose.

What We Believe

Our church adheres to these fundamental Christian beliefs

The Scriptures

We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

The Godhead

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Person of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary, a virgin, and is true God and true man.

The Nature of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death—which is separation from God—and that all beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, word, and deed.

The Atonement of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.

Eternal Security

We believe in the eternal security of the believer—that it is impossible for one born into the family of God ever to be lost.

The Resurrection and Ascension of Christ

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there as High Priest and Advocate.

The Blessed Hope

We believe in the “Blessed Hope”—the personal, pre-millennial, pretribulational, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when the Church will be “gathered together unto Him”.

The Future of Israel

We believe in the literal fulfillment of the prophecies and promises of the Scriptures which foretell and assure the future regeneration and restoration of Israel as a nation.

Salvation by Faith

We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God.

The Resurrection and Eternal State

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

Ordinances of the Church

We believe that the Scriptural ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and are administered to believers only, as a symbol of their belief in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and as a testimony to the world of that belief and of their death, burial, and resurrection with Him; and that the Lord’s Supper should be partaken of by believers only to show forth His death, “till He come”.

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person; that He inspired the Scriptures using human authors; that He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; that He regenerates those who believe, places them into the body of Christ, and dwells in them; that as Christ’s representative on earth, He calls out a people from Jews and Gentiles and makes of the two “one new man”; and that He calls out people to God’s service and empowers and directs them in that service. We believe that certain gifts of the Holy Spirit—such as speaking in tongues and miraculous healings—were intended only for the Apostolic Era of the Church.

Our Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on profession of our faith, having been baptized by immersion in the name of the Father, and Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, disciplines, and doctrines; and to contribute cheerfully, and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and private devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings; faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling (gossiping), backbiting, and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drink, tobacco, ganja, and paan; and to abstain from worldly amusements such as gambling and attendance of movie theatres; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Saviour, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
